Quality visuals are equally as important as the content itself as it is what draws the readers' attentions. Admittedly I have not done nearly as much photography and design for the Emery as writing, however, I am now getting much more involved in this process.

I have not yet had the opportunity to take many photos for the newspaper, but the following is a collection of some images, published and unpublished that I have taken.

I was able to create this entire story package, from photographs to design. Although this was a last minute assignment to fill an unexpected gap in the paper, I think it turned out really well. I made sure to select a variety of photos that portray action and emotion. What makes this photostory particularly effective is that it highlights moments throughout the racing process, starting at the beginning, the race it self and the swimmers' reactions.

Photo stories are one of my favorite elements to design. It often feels like a puzzle trying to get everything to fit together in an aesthetic manor.
Sports Page
By designing the first front page of the 2020-2021 school year, I was able to make subtle adjustments like adding a drop cap and changing the headline font to improve reader experience for years to come!

Although the design is simple, I think the black background rectangles are the perfect way to highlight the photographs and incorporate quotations.

I used a variety of rectangles to make this page look cohesive yet interesting. By aligning elements horizontally and vertically, I created a digestible page that is pleasing to look at.
