Opinion
Opinion writing is some of the most fun writing there is. While I always get some say about what I write, opinion writing is a way for me to write specifically about I am passionate about.
Block Scheduling
January 2019/April 2020
I initially wrote this piece in Jan 2019 to advocate for a block schedule (longer, less frequent classes). I updated the piece again in April 2020 to reflect how online school is the perfect opportunity to make such a shift. Ultimately, last August the change to a block schedule was made (at least temporarily to help accommodate virtual learning). While I don't know if my article had any bearing on this decision, I am certain it made students more open to the idea of a new schedule.
Personal Narrative
June 2020
Last March I made a choice: to spend much of the lockdown with my extended family in Germany. I felt it was important to write this narrative to reflect on my experience and hopefully teach readers to find moments of positivity in a largely negative time
Editorials
September 2020-Present
Editorials remain an uncredited staple to The Emery where the editorial team speaks out about an issue students currently face. Though this is very much a team effort, I have taken on the responsibility of crafting editorials. One of the key issues the editorial board felt strongly about was the lack of student representation when schools made major decisions. That is why I created a "Student Voices" section every issue of The Emery where any student has the chance to work with editors to publish their own opinion piece!
