Leadership
As editor-in-chief I am responsible for editing and pitching all pieces for the Emery. This has allowed me to collaborate with my peers in a variety of ways.
Editing
I read and edit all pieces for the Emery. Once I go through an article myself I try to speak one on one with the author for a few minutes about it. I do this so the writer can really understand my critiques so they become better as a writer. Now with online school, I try to schedule zoom meetings or meet in a breakout room to keep contact as personal as possible
Weekly Meetings
This is all of the editors together at a weekly editor's meeting. During these we discuss ideas for stories and other ideas related to the newspaper such as fundraising and publicity.
Bootcamp Lessons
To help get editors and staff members up to speed at the start of the summer, I, along with other editorial board members, prepared and presented mini-lessons. My presentation focused on idea pitching and news gathering. My key points included how to help make a good story idea a great one and different outlets we can get interviews and quotes through.
As a completely-self funded newspaper, I have played a key role in helping gather enough money to cover regular printing costs. This includes fundraising activities, advertisement sales and asking groups like the PTSO for sponsorships.

JEA/NSPCA Fall Conference 2019
In November 2019 I had the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. with some other staff members for the JEA/NSPCA Fall Conference. Highlights include keynote speaker, Chuck Todd, the Emery winning a Best in Show award, visiting the Newseum, and winning an award for excellence in Newswriting.
